A financial gap between genders in old age
Empowering Hong Kong's Elderly
In Hong Kong, the burden of childcare has traditionally fallen heavily on women, leading to employment gaps and reduced savings. This puts many elderly women at risk of poverty in their later years. The challenges faced by our elderly in poverty are numerous and deeply concerning:
Hunger and malnutrition
Limited access to healthcare and information
Mental health issues and social isolation
Erosion of dignity
At The Good Cake, we're tackling these issues head-on:
Addressing Hunger
We regularly distribute rice to ensure our elderly friends don't go to bed hungry.
Promoting Inclusion
We've created a small but vibrant community where the young and “retired” work together. Our baking sessions with our retired aunties is often filled with laughter, providing a sense of purpose and belonging for everyone.
The Good Cake believes in the ripple effect of our cakes and cookies. By bringing food to the table and fostering intergenerational connections, we're working to create a more inclusive and caring society for all generations in Hong Kong.
